As graduation approaches it starts to set in. You think all the stress will be over as finals conclude. That’s when it sets in that you have to find a job. I’m in this position right now as I scour for potential job opening and internships. With every application I ask myself, “am I actually qualified to get this job?”

The truth is you can make it all the way through college and still not be qualified. Unfortunately, a degree just isn’t enough anymore as you compete against the hundreds of other graduates with the same degree. You need to have something on your resume that differentiates you. There a different courses and certification to give you skills outside of the standard marketing curriculum.

There are countless resources out there, but this article will just focus on the 5 certifications that are offered by Google:

Google Analytics

The Google Analytics individual qualification exam is what you’ll need to pass to get the certificate. To prepare for this course you’ll take the courses within Google’s Analytics Academy. Start with Google Analytics for Beginners and Advanced Google Analytics where you’ll learn about the different tools used to collect and analyze data.

Google AdWords

To get AdWords certified you will need to pass AdWords Fundamentals and one of the 5 other AdWords exams of your choice. You can choose between: Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Video Advertising, Mobile Advertising, and Shopping Advertising. Each test has its own set of lessons to prepare you.

Google Mobile Sites

This exam covers topics on how to manage and optimize a mobile website. Prior to the exam you will have four modules covering all the basic and advanced content. They recently released an online course that will prepare you for the same exam in under 2 hours. You can find the course in Academy for Ads from Google.

Google Digital Sales

This exam covers topics on how online advertising and sales skills. It is designed to test the effectiveness of sales representatives. They also have recently released an online course that will prepare you for the same exam in roughly 4 hours. You can find the course in Academy for Ads from Google.

Google Digital Garage

The Digital garage has 23 topics each with an unlockable badge. The topics range in length and content and after completing the different topics you can unlock the final digital certifications to show your competencies in the different areas. This will give you a basic understanding of digital marketing fundamentals.
